John Allen’s Timesaver
Over-all a nice pdf of past articles. Some of the reproduction is a bit out of focus but you get all the info of the various articles. John Allen was ahead of his time with many aspects of the hobby that today we almost take for granted. The thought put into the challenges of the Time Saver are very much alive today. If you ever wished to add some unique operation to your layout, this will get you started very easily. Simple yet will keep even the most diehard operations fan entranced for hours. My only wish is that the articles could have been reproduced with a bit more consistency and possibly a better format for the text. Nice to see this available and for the price, it’s a definite buy.
This great. Something for to share with my grandson.
Our club built a similar version of Mr. Allen’s Timesaver for our hosting of the 1977 O Scale National Convention, the exception being it had three tail tracks on each end instead of two on one end and three on the other. We still have the module at the club and it is almost fully restored to working condition. Mr. Allen was not only a great modeler, but also a fine inventor of new and imaginative ways to model and entertain.
Nice compilation of options for the John Allen timesaver idea. Great for those with limited permanent layout space. Good idea for modular clubs to allow hands-on operation to novices or visitors at shows. I am considering an HOn3 option to include in my home layout. Great low price at $2.95 on sale!
