Johnson 16 Wheeler

Didn’t want to post anything until I was sure the dang thing would even work. Heres the meat and potatoes cooking away:

Chassis of basswood, pilot wheels from Bachmann Bug Maulers

Wheel articulation, this WILL run on the 21" pizza!

This will be a non-powered pusher engine, with the motor in a trailing car pushing it around the pizza. this set-up allows me to build interesting engines that are not powerable using conventional sources, more to come…

Oh man! You can find some of the strangest stuff possible to model. This looks like a fun one.

Thanks Tom, this one has been on the bucket list since I built the Price years ago. Its probably going to be my last large size kitbash, just because I dont have any more room for anything this else big. So far it just squeezes thru the Pizza tunnel, no clips of dragging, pusher car works nicely.[:D]

I tried some various boilers I have from blown up models but only one from an old Stainz seams to work but its too busy with rubbish cast on details, so looks like this will get a scratch built boiler. Not a problem except I really really hate cutting up the plumbing pipe, its soooo messy! [:(!]

If you can find the time to do it, I, for one, would love to see a short video of it on the pizza.

Once its done, I guarantee it.

Doing a project challenge on LSC, once thats done it back to this.

Crazy model, but it’s what we expect from you. Looking good!

First round of pics

Marine motor build up, its based on Scientific Toys locomotive pistons glued together with other Plastruct and styrene parts:

Painting begun, Grimy Black overall, dirty paint thinner stained wood deck

Decided to keep the Stainz boiler. Currently working on the cab roof, I will be modeling this as an open cab. Its not going to be an exact prototype model, as there were no two built alike, and mine will be slightly “Americanized” to work within my pizza genre, but overall it will make for a fun addition.

Major work finished, cab built, details added, all thats left is the numbering.

Marine motor and detailing

Figures are temporary, I will replace them once I find better

I will add more junk and stuff as time goes on, but its ready for service on the pizza.

[:D]

Man, she sure has the look of great hauling power! For a ‘passive lady’ she has the look of strength.

Bob Baxter suggested removing the plastic inserts from the pilot wheels to get a more spindly look, Still need to paint them, but it really does look a whole lot better now. Thanks Bob

Have you selected what the “pusher trailer” will be? I agree with Bob’s idea.

Tom I built this up about a year ago so I could run my Stomper based models, as the Stomper drive proved to be extremely unreliable on the pizza, its an HLW gondola with an Aristo brick under it.

Will you be bringing this to the BTS? Hope to see you there.

I dunno, seriously …I dunno,

By that I mean the organizers have released an exhibition layout map, and I’m NOT on it. despite sending my paperwork in before the appropriate time. The organizer says “dont worry, its not a finalized map” and they are working to fit me in, I’m still planning to go but whether I’ll be in a fixed position or roaming around… I dunno…[X-)]
