Join in guys: The reasons I stay away from the layout is...

The reasons I tend to stay away from my layout is when I am pretty depressed or upset about my current life situations(family, job,or disappointments) and/or when the money is not right so I do not have the urge to go to the layout and do anything. Oh yea and lastly is I tend not to go to the layout in the summer much at all because it is so very nice outside and I like to do outside stuff. What things keep you fellas away from your layout? I am sure there are times when you do not feel like even seeing the layout or even coming on the forum right?

My computer. I am supposedly called a mushroom. The reason is because I close all the blinds and face my dark computer, slowly rotting. LOL

Primarily it’s lack of time and money. I’ll run some trains, but it only reminds me of what I’d like to do with it but can’t right now.

I stay away fromt he layout cause of Death in the family, Sick, hurt or just have no idea what to do on it money is not really a factor for me since I got tons of junk still to do on the layout.
I still work and play with the trains during summer, dont get me wrong I go outside and etc etc but if its to hot for my liking which is 85 to 100+ I stay in. I cant stand humidity so I stay in and in Wisconsin you get hot + humidity dring the summer. Another reasn I stay away from my layout at times is when I have to print decals for people or trainshows.

My wife! But I love her so…

I’m stuck in Iraq right now!

Rick

I spend as much time out there as humanly possable. It’s my train building of solitude.
Even watching it run in circles is good therapy.

Rick, that’s no excuse [8D]

Just kidding man - it’s because of people like you that the rest of us are able to have things in life that are as frivulous as this awesome hobby.

Thanks man!!!

As to the original topic, I haven’t even gotten started on my layout! Too many other things going on at the moment in my life. (new baby - it’s the best, just a year into being a full-time self-employed consultant, hanging out with my wife, and the occasional drumming…)

It’s always nice to know the hobby is wating there when I have time for it!

I’m also in a state of “experimentation” with tracklaying methods, designing layouts on the computer, etc. Trying to develop inexpensive approaches to the hobby - I just don’t want to spend much money on it for some reason!

As a kid, I thought MRR’ing was expensive. I’m determined to not have it seem expensive to a grown adult!

I and my hammer have Anger Issues

Work. I am gone early and late too often and spend way too many nights in hotels. I never thought I would be in a position to say that it is lack of time, not lack of money, that is the biggest barrier to my enjoyment of the hobby. Funny how things change.

Ditto. Thanks and know you’re appreciated, whatever the media might say otherwise.

As to the question at hand… I rarely choose to stay away from the layout. I generally try to spend a little time on it every day, even if just 15 mins. If I do stay away a few days, it’s generally just a busy schedule and lack of time.

Technical difficulties. Or lack of confidence in my skills there of.
Of course Im at level 1 and still very much a greenhorn. By gilly!!, Somtimes it feels like Im tryin to poke a cat out from under the porch with a wet rope, man i tell you what!!! But i ain`t been wooped yet!! No sir.

“Honeydew”

As in, “Honey, do you think you can (fill in the project.)”

Around here, summer is an excuse to stay under cover and work on the layout - 115 degrees in the shade, and not much shade!

Lately, a broken rib. But usually–NOTHING keeps me away from the layout!

It turned a bit nasty outside so I am not working on the layout right now (in the building out back) Lucky for me I have a desk in the living room to work on building kits! So I am working on getting all my cars weighed properly and building the rest of my carnival rides.

…but I’m going to Orlando in 2 weeks so I can’t concentrate on anything right now. [8D]

Thank’s Man America supports you!, no matter what CNN say’s.

As to the original ? , Job (55 to 60 hours a week), Wife ( very needy), Son (3 and a half[}:)]) I still sneak down to the basement when I can.

The workshop is in the basement, and the layout is upstairs in the family room. I’ve been working on structures, so that’s basement work.

I stay away from the 1/87th monstrosity on the garage due to my hollow core door N scale project.

Most of the time I stay away from my layout is;
1- I am not sure what to do with a certian project and need time to think it through.
2- My wife needs help with something.
3- work gets in the way.
1 however is most likely the prime reason for me not working on my layout. I have to be satisfied with what I am going to do before I continue.

Wow its ben more than 2 weeks since I have done any layout work and been back here too. I have been busy with a new job.
