Has anyone tried railfanning@joliet union station?Has taking pics of trains been outlawed there? Thanks
The last time I was there, no one said a word. Just stay on the platform.
Been there all quite a bit, and never a problem. Just stay on the platform and off the tracks. Also, if you are there after dark, mind your P’s and Q’s. Also, now that’s it’s baseball season, parking can be difficult, as the Joliet Jackhammers play in the stadium that is right along the tracks. Usually plenty of action on any given day. I enjoy it there, I think it’s a great place for photography.
I go several times a year , never a problem .
I hope to go up soon to try out a new digital camera I bought recently
It’s a good idea to keep flashy, expensive equipment in the bag until you reach the platform. And return it to the bag in-between trains.
I’ve been out there a few times. I’ve never had a problem and there are usually other fans on the platform. One of the best kept secrets is Metra’s $5.00 weekend pass. In 2000 I rode Metra out to Joliet, and it is quite an urban trainride.I really enjoyed it. Unlike other Metra lines not railfan friendly crew, that was their problem not mine and enjoyed the trip. I did not take any photos. At Joliet many railfans were on the platform all but 2 with cameras. One guy told me that he left his wife and kids in the casino.
Chicagoland is the greatest place in the world to watch trains.I wish those powers that be at Metra knew this
