JT's smoke fluid!

anyone know if any of these scents smell like the original lionel??? which one???

and hows the coal-fired steamer??? sounds good!

coal-fired steamer is what I am running in my steamers. Smells just like that. Smokes real good.

cool, i might have to buy a bottle for when my Polar Express comes in

Ive been in and around steamers, coal fired… and that smoke does not smell like one, Smells like burning rubber. I like Vanilla and Cinimon Roll, and where I do shows, they like it as well.

Several people have been suggesting a smoke pellet scented fluid for a while now, as I will probably when I make my next order. I definitely prefer the scent of pellets to the scent of any mineral oil, although I do have my doubts that any amount of scenting or any scent will be able to completely mask the scent of the mineral oil(not present in smoke pellets). I have two pellet engines, a 681 and a 675, and both always have at least some pellets in them. The 675 does get fluid some, but I still prefer to feed it pellets.

Someone commented that scented smoke fluids gum up smoke units. For years, the only game in town with regard to scented smoke fluids was Supersmoke. I have used Supersmoke in my American Flyer engines before, and I definitely noticed them being gummed up from it. I have heard that this is true even for the unscented smoke fluids. It may be a case of a specific brand being associated with both scented smoke fluids and gumming up smoke units that has been translated into a generalization that all scented smoke fluids clog up units.

Do not use JT’s or anything but LGB in a seuthe smoke. Yes it will clog them up. They require a very thin fluid and the Seuth or LGB fluids are the only ones to work. I even put some concentrated christmas scent in the lgb fluid one christmas and it smelled good but it runed the smoke unit.
I use the christmas pine all year around as I have the same heating system as chief and my wife likes it so there is no problem.
Dave.

I agree with Dave, but also note that LBG makes two types of smoke fluid, mineral oil and one for seuthe smoke units.

My son has a halloween “fog” generator. It will fill a room in minutes with thick fog. I’ve been tempted to try his fog liquid (it comes in quarts!) in my locos. Does anyone know what the fogging liquid is? The machine has a heater just like a smoke unit so it seem that it would work the same.

There are three posts on this thread recommending putting liquids not designed specifically for toy train smoke units into smoke generators.

In a word: DON’T.

JT’s makes a superior product that smokes well, smells better, AND HAS BEEN TESTED FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE!

Putting motor oil, lamp oil, mineral oil/spirits, fog machine liquid or whatever to save a few pennies on smoke fluid is not only being cheap, it’s being STUPID.

While the smoke produced from these products MAY not be carcinogenic in and of themselves, they may also produce particulates that carcinogens can attach to, and therefore be swept into your lungs.

JT’s and other smoke brands are VAPORIZED and then CONDENSED droplets of fluid, not containing particulates.

You want to kill yourselves with cheap crap off the shelves of K-Mart to save a few cents…justdoesn’t make sense!

The one thing I have not seen addressed yet is breathing in the used smoke. Is it any better than cigarette smoke. We could all be in trouble if it is. May be ctt can do an article on that.
I know Rich of ogr did flame studies on fluids but have not seen cancer problems with breathing the train stuff. Dave.

Good idea Northern. Remember the great O gauger of years ago [seems like he was Frank somebody???]. Died of lung cancer. Used asbestos for mountains and scenery hills and etc. Now they know the particles cause lung cancer.
