Judge rules against effort to evict Catskill Mountain Railroad

This whole debacle seems to be dragging on forever. Not knowing enough about what or who’s behind this ongoing litigation I hope they can settle their differences.

Forcing the railroad to abandon won’t solve anything. Nor does it make any sense. After all the volunteer effort that has gone into it.

Kinda reminds me of the situation Adirondack Scenic may be facing on the northern end of their railroad into Lake Placid.

Let the volunteers rebuild and restore this railroad! Another example of the ills of an intrusive government.

The bigger question is what will happen June 1st, 2016. Is there even a chance the lease will be renewed?

If you know anything about the area or why the has been out of service then you know its going to take the co operation of the volunteers and the intrusive government. The line was destroyed by a hurricane and many bridges and parts of line washed out. I wish them well and hope they can get grants and funding from intrusive government. Mr. Willison: If I am not mistaken the community has received a grant to repair the damaged rail but the intrusive local government refuses to release it to the railroad.

I serious doubt that thier grant money to restore the entire line, putting twenty odd miles back in service would be expensive even for the intrusive state and local governments of new York. But with that said what happens to the line can only be determined by the local communities involved. Let’s hope a resolution can be found so all stake holders needs are met.

They can find millions to turn it into a trail, but they will not use the funds to keep the railroad running. It proves that they are out to destroy railroads.

The county wants the trail. The same thing happened in Peoria, but to a line with freight potential. It appears that the county can’t evict the railroad before the lease is up, but after that they probably won’t renew the lease. If they are still operating, ride it while you can.

Ill laugh when it isn’t turned into a trail

the line has potential as a tourist magnet as well as freight traffic potential, but some big city PC politicians want to rip it up to appease the granola-munchers, how sad.

The county’s and city’s eviction efforts have nothing to do with the desires of hikers and bikers, but with the real estate development which would go along with turning the railroad into a trail. The same thing is going on with the Adirondack line farther north.

Very sad. I hope their lease gets renewed but I don’t see it happening.

I remember years ago when I vacationed in the Catskills, the County was harassing the railroad over something stupid. the times I visited the railroad offered tubers on the river a way back from there origin. Plus snacks and memorbelia sold creates tax revenue for New York State.I enjoyed speaking with all the railroad employees. And years later the same stupid political crap is still there, trying to put a tourist operation which brings revenue to the region out business. Shame on them, what tax revenue does rail to trail bring , duh nothing.

This whole mess smacks of personalities and Chicago mob, er, machine politics. You would suspect that, for all the crap the county and state are giving the railroad, somebody might be getting a little something under the table.
