Well, here we are in our new home for this month. Everything’s spanking clean and shiny! I believe we got everything moved, and I even found the roll out awning for the patio!
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning:
BLTs, along with the regular bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, etc.
Happy June 1st for all of you. Everyone have a great morning, and I’ll see you all after Tuesday Produce.
Good morning, everyone. Thanks for handling the move, Paula. Everything seems shipshape, except that the juke box wasn’t plugged in and I don’t see the cuspidors. Thanks for breakfast.
72 and fog in Carolina, again a high in the low 80s and more thunderstorms. It seems like we could have a break from the lightning storms. It gets old after a while.
Today, hopefully, will be grocery shopping day If the storms hold off, I will sally forth and restock the larder.
Good morning all. I am back from my annual trip home for Memorial Day. My two brothers met me and we decorated our parents grave site. Then we visited old friends who also make this annual trip.
Our small home town, 2500 population, keeps a beautiful cemetery with a caretaker living on the site. It is one of the finest things a small community can do and ours in Colorado has graves from the 1850’s when this was still the wild west.
Saw several BNSF, and one UP, coal trains on their way to TX. The UP had operating rights on BNSF which are infrequently used. Amtrak Nos. 3 and 4 were on time.
Brian; thank you for your effort. I was wondering if it was the Southwest Chief. There is two of of those trains , one runs the north tier states and the other runs the southern tier states. Both end in CHG. The Cardinal takes over from CHG. to CINN. The other one goes on eastward. I don’t recall the other train name that goes east . Amtrak at its finest.
Tuesday Produce went well this morning. We only had about 38 people show up today, but I figured that, this being the first day of the month, we would be on the low number side. On the truck today: potatoes, yellow squash, gallon jugs of lemon flavored tea, heads of iceberg lettuce and some tomatoes.
Joe, today is the last day of school here in Jefferson County (Louisville) Ky, also.
Here is our Mexican Fiesta menu for this afternoon and evening:
Sarah isn 't working on the railroad today. Instead, she is helping out with her fire department’s road block for this weekend’s WHAS Crusade for Children telethon.
Tree - you mentioned something in the May Diner - gas stored in attached garage - that caught my eye. My understanding is that if it is in a proper gas can it is ok. We have detached garage and our landscaper [8D] brings his own mower and gas can.
So was this fire caused by improper storage of gasoline? Give me some tips on storing gas normally - just for curiosity sake.
Tom - I just happen to have a lady’s cut glass cuspidor in my living room. Kind of icky - ladies using a cuspidor…but makes a good conversation piece and it does have a permanent tobacco stain in the bottom. [X-)]

…Hello diner fans…Have not been on here since Friday night, as we have been out east until arriving back in Muncie this afternoon.
Hope all of the crew had a blessed Holiday and were able to attend a Memorial Service in their home area or one of their choice and see friends that perhaps one sees just annually, etc…That is the way it is with us.
It can be a serious / somber time {hearing the “TAPS” being played…and then the “echo” trumpet right after}…Chill time. Remembering those who served and still do.
Purchased an automobile the day before we left for out east and that added to our busyness. 5 hrs. at the dealership…Then tried to do a quick learning curve on how to run it…and get ready to go…We were bushed when we got to bed Friday night.
Weather was great for most of our long weekend and the annual celebration / parade in our small home town in Pennsylvania was great as it always is.
Right now we’re winding down and resting and must head out for something to eat.
Walt…I’ll send you several pic’s I took of a revised retro gas station refitted as a coffee shop / sandwich shop / icecream, etc. {diner}…It is about a mile from our home here. It is great.
Later {soon as time permits}, I’ll send them and if you care to put any on for the “diner patrons” feel free to do so…{This fellow spent $$$ in all this creation}…
Memorial Day Weekend traffic was surprisingly not a real problem.
Did anyone ever locate the spittoons? If not, we may have to go with Jen’s cut glass one although the brass ones are more fun to polish… Remember that you GIs? When I went into the navy, everyone went through the AFEES station at Fort Jackson. One thing that I remember vividly was the door to the head (latrine/bathroom). It was rough, almost splintered with the paint blistered and peeling off it, but it had a brass knob on it with a polish and shine that was like a mirror. I could imagine some poor boot there on his knees with a rag and brasso working on that knob whilst some DI tried to find fault with it… Those were the days, eh guys?
[:-^] Joe; last year we went to CINN. on the Cardinal from CHG. Then reverse Cardinal to CHG. and on the Southwest Chief to FLG. We went to Xenia via Dayton from CINNCY by car ( bro inlaw) . All along the way from flg. we saw the finest of the fine junk yards ~~ LOL
Good morning, everyone. Yeah, Mookie, it is morning. A very muggy morning, with a temp of 73 degrees, and going for a high of 91 today (yesterday we topped out at 90 even), and by 3 p.m., we have a 50% chance of storms.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Mookie, here’s a mug of coffee for you (a big 64 oz. mug), and a 32 oz. one for me. Maybe it’ll give me a jolt of caffiene I definitely need this morning.
On the serving station: bagels, bear claws, and BLTs for this morning.
Everyone have a good morning, keep safe, and take care.
