Junk shop find

Last weekend at a local junk shop I found a pretty neat little treasure. I found and bought the " The Model Railroader Cylopedia The book of plans", sixth edition 1950. It was only ten or fifteen bucks. Orginally it cost $4.50 ! Question they have some old model railroad magazines in the binder if I remember correctly they werte asking $15. for the set Tryiong to decide whether to pick these up. I think they are fromn the 70s era. What do you think. ?

If you are not modeling the modern era, I would get them. Any magazine you haven’t read is new to you. You can’t beat $1-something per magazine. However, there will not be any DCC info in them, but the other articles and drawings will be useful.

They usually sell for .50 to $1 at swap meets. I’d wait and save my $ for the DVD that is coming out later this year unless there is something special in the collection>

Is that the DVD that is $199. being advertised ?

Yes

For magazines from the 1970s, unless they are in exceptionally good condition, I would not pay more than $1.00 per issue. With careful shopping, you can probably find serviceable issues for under $1.00 per issue. And with the DVD coming out, and assuming that the scanning is well done, I would expect the price of back issues to drop.

I am curious to see how Kalmbach handles gatefold scale drawings, which can cover two or more page widths. Depending on how these drawings are presented in the DVD, a person might want to hold on to at least those issues with the large drawings.
