Just A Reminder...

That Autumn will be headed to a deciduous forest near you (at least if you’re in the northern hemisphere). Don’t forget to head out and get some train shots during the prettiest (at least IMHO) time of year. Just to whet your whistle a bit, here’s some shots taken Friday up by the Moffat Tunnel (sorry about the bad lighting…we had a front come through that made for some interesting weather):

BTW, if you’re interested, I’ve got some (non-railroad) shots taken in Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday that are pretty good, at least to me. There’s even a good dose of winter mixed in! They’re up at:

Anyways, I wish you all a great Autumn. Hope you have lots of colors headed your way!

Great shots - I’m still looking out the window at snow brought by that same storm to Utah.

beautiful, dude. trees are the one thing altoona DOES have! i’ll try to get good shots!

Thanks for the reminder, although it hasn’t hit here yet.

Better order some Velvia 50 while B&H still has it for $5.19 a roll. This is going to be the last fall for in-date 50, so I’m going to enjoy it while I can.

Yep had an inch on the ground saturday morning, it was all gone by 3 pm though, just in time for a trip down to Sheep Creek Canyon sunday, fall hasn’t quite fit there but it has mre than it has here in town…

Got some cool pics, check it out at http://miniwyo.deviantart.com

Last year around here they didn’t think our colors would be too great because of the drought conditions that existed back then. They turned out to be some of the most spectacular in my memory.

We’ve had plenty of rain this year, and about the only thing they’re forecasting is that the colors will come early. And our leaves turn more than just yellow or brown!

The Adirondacks are changing rapidly - our riders this past weekend got their money’s worth. Peak colors aren’t far away.

The view from the rear vestibule on Sunday morning:

Maybe Randy Stahl could take a few Maine shots for us. I suspect the maples are “heating up” there now.

That third picture, was that the original entrance to Rollins Pass? I always thought it was amazing about how they built it.

…Chris:

Like your shots of the stormy skies and railroading near Moffit.

What’s with that right leg of the wye in your 3rd shot…The angle of the rails as they leave the switch {to the right}, seem a bit out of position.

Ahhh, fall, definately the photographers favorite season, pity it was always so short though.

You’d never get away with this these days…

nor this.

…That 1st pic. sure looks like Horseshoe Curve but those look like CSX engines…??

yep should be able to get some shots around the deshler resivouirs and time to go to hicksville hill.get the shots before the snow flies.

stay safe

Quentin, those engines look like EL, PC, and CR to me. Talk about colors!

I’m hoping we’ll see a few fall displays while driving through Iowa and eastern Nebraska, in a couple of weeks. I’ll have my photographer at the ready!

Carl…Yes, I figured that 3rd engine did look like Conrail…Pretty sure that setting is Horseshoe.

Yes, it is Horseshoe, taken in 77 (before tresspassing was frowned upon), the 3rd engine is actually a caboose thoiugh.
