Just back from PA

What a great trip. On our way to her family’s time-share in the Poconos, my girlfriend and I stopped in Lancaster Thursday night and spent my 40th birthday at Strasburg RR on Friday where we toured the locomotive shop, had lunch and rode in an open air car. The view of the Amish farms and that smell, ah…that smell. We then drove through Bird-in-Hand on our way to Intercourse. The chocolate covered pretzels we had were great and the souveniers very resonably priced.

Afterwards, we drove up to Scranton. We slept at the Quality Inn in Dunmore and spent the entire Saturday at Steamtown. We rode an excursion to Moscow, PA. The train was pulled by a Delaware & Lackawanna Alco/MLW diesel in Genesee Valley livery because the park’s two operational steams, CP 2317 and CN 3254 were down for service. We watched NKP 514 and her crew perform a turntable demonstration and toured the museum.

Sunday I stayed close to the resort which is just South of Mt. Pocono along route 611. I spent most of my time fishing in the pond at the resort where I caught numerous bluegills and some nice largemouth bass.

Monday I ventured out to take in some of the local flavor. I went to the town of Tobyhanna and photographed the recently renovated train depot and the old DL&W tower across the road from it. Didn’t see any trains this day as I wanted to cover as much ground as I could to really familiarize myself with my surroundings. I ended up in East Stroudsburg around noon and stopped at Wal-Mart to buy a three day fishing license with a trout stamp. I passed so many inviting trout streams along the way and since I brought proper fishing gear with me I figured I should not risk getting caught fishing without a license. I found a stream that was not “POSTED NO TRESSPASSING” and caught a little brown trout.

Tuesday I drove to Moscow in hopes of catching some train video on the new camcorder my girlfriend gave me fo
