Just bought myself a 1-700e hudson

Decided our overhead layout in the new home needed better motive power, so being a lover of the NYC hudson, I picked up a nice 1-700e hudson with the display case on ebay. So she will look good on the layout or on the mantel. I will pick up a set of heavy weight passenger cars for it later this year. Cheers Mike

I bought the Lionel “Heritage” NYC heavyweight passenger cars for my 1-700E Hudson. I think they look great together.

Congrats on the new engine. Would just love to have one of those as part of my collection.

I was just looking at a set of those heavyweights online! Probably later this fall, I have to wait for the contractor to install the new fireplace before I can errect the overhead layout again. I did an overhead layout in our mobile home back in PA, ran everything from LGB G scale to On30 on it, LGB does great, but leaves no room for my ceramic buildings, On30 looks good, but the track is a PITA to keep clean if you dont run it much, 3 Rail Lionel on Tubular track was the best other than the noise, this time I plan to better insulate the track from the wood shelving. I will probably do 0-72 curves so I can run scale pilot truck wheels on the hudson as well as looking better on the wide curves. Might look at Atlas track with its correct rail profile, since the Hudson doesnt have magnatraction, no need for steel track. I dont care for gargraves, and Lionel’s fastrak seems expensive for what it is. I do want to put working NYC signals on the layout. I think Atlas makes the Type G signals that NYC seemed to use along with searchlight style ones. I cant wait for the hudson to arrive later this week. Cheers Mike

I have had one of these Hudsons since they were released and it is indeed a very nice locomotive. It spends virtually all its time in the display case, as does my scale Pennsylvania turbine. I was unaware at the time about the option of scale pilot truck wheels for the Hudson: how could these be obtained now?

I have a pair of K-Line semi scale cars in NYC (or Pullman) two tone grey and may try to get more of these.

You can get the replacement pilot truck for the hudson with the scale dia. wheels from Sal Olsen of Olsen Toy Train Parts in Ohio. He even has one of them on ebay right now, opening bid is $24. Cheers Mike
