I have always liked the milwaukee road. I liked how the electrics ran in the mountains and the different locomotives they owned such as the SD10 or the SDL39. I think its alittle both of liking the locomotive and the the color scheme and road the locomotive belongs to.

I model modern UP, but I HAD TO HAVE a Challenger, now on order. They are just so cool. So now I’ve ordered some passenger cars (which I’ve never had before) so that I can justify it as a railfan train.
Is there any ever end? Pretty soon I may have more locomotives than rolling stock!
I buy the type that the Ma&Pa had. Since no one letters the Ma&Pa diesels in S, I figure to repaint the SW1 and Sw9 I have. Hopefully I can get 2 unlettered NW2’s from S Helper before they are sold out. Otherwise I’ll buy 2 and repaint them. For steam, I already have a Ma&Pa 2-8-0 kit.
Enjoy

I use to do that… That is, until I took an inventory and realized I was approching 200 locomotives… Mixed types and road names, plastic, die cast (mantua, bowser, etc), and brass… Bought my freight cars, passenger cars, maintainence cars the same way… Approached 1200 of those, again, all types, all price ranges… I’ve dumped a lot of it and it’s much more managable and enjoyable… Now if it doesn’t say Wabash on it, locos And rolling stock, it stays on the shelves or on the internet (whichever the case may be). If it’s undecorated (steam), I’ll buy it if I can turn it into a Waba***ype (and it has to be close to begin with).

I buy by manufacturer, road name and color. Price does play a part and the price of the toys keeps going up. Wonder if I can get a governmental subsidy to cover the next couple of engines. Phil
I look for the road name I model then I find the series I want. Most of my engines are GP7’s and GP9’s I do own about 10 of the SD series and some FM Trainmasters and Babytrain masters. As far as roads I have about 25 or so in the IC road, but I always loved the paints they used on the CB&Q, NP, and GN in GP series, have some of these roads to just for the look they had on the first GP7’s and 9’s.
Roadname → Loco type
I buy anything that has Ontario Northland on it.
Well, usually when I want to purchase a new locomotive, I go by what model I want first. Then, when I find a model of particular interest that I want to buy, I’ll check the roadnames listed, and pick the one that I would like best. I don’t model a prototype railroad, so anything goes on my own lines.[:D]
I’m a rebel. If it looks good and I like it and the price is right, I buy it. I have such an assortment of different engines, roadnames, and styles most serious modelers would flip! I, however, just like to have fun running everything!
I buy them because Ilike them. having said that I am on my second layout and I will be a little decerning in what I BUY
Since I freelance, The paint that come on the model means nothong to me. I will generally pick the paintjob thats easiest for me to strip, but it’s the loco that gets me.
I like variety. I’ll pick a model I don’t have and then a roadname that is different from the others in my collection.
Bill
Well yeah, but the question was what is it that you “like” about them? The paint scheme or the type of locomotive?
I would guess you are a paint scheme kind of person.
