Just got the 2009 edition of "Great Model Railroads".....

Hi,

The 2009 edition of GMR came yesterday, and once again it is an exceptional piece of work.

I’ve subscribed to GMR since “day one”, and the beautiful handiwork of fellow modelers never ceases to amaze me. And while my interests are primarily in HO and the steam/diesel transition period, I find the work of N, S, O, and narrow gauge modelers just fascinating.

The timing of this annual is perfect for me, for its about this time every year that the MR efforts begin to get into high gear…

ENJOY,

Mobilman44

Sounds like I’d better get a copy of it soon. Looks like some high-caliber work in there.

I’ll probably get it tommorrow on the way back home from work.

The cover of it looks like it may have a BN layout in it. Does it actually have one?

Its a WP layout along the Feather River but shot is a BN train on the BN track… so I guess you could call part of it a BN layout. Its a fantastic layout best I have ever seen myself, I get to go run my GS-6 with a PFE block on it this Sunday [:D]

Every one should get this, there are a lot of good layouts in it and will give you some good ideas.

Hi "4460,’

I’m very glad you liked GMR, and thanks for the recommendation.

Just to set the record straight, the line on the cover with the BN run-through train is Jim Pendley’s representation of Western Pacific’s Beiber Extension. That was definitely a WP line built north from Keddie to connect with the (then) Great Northern at Beiber, Calif. Though operating with BN power, in the prototype that train would have had a WP crew and been operated as a WP train to the interchange point at Beiber. Jim’s layout is all WP, or former WP under UP ownership.

So long,

Andy

Just got it yesterday in the mail… Very nice.

My 4-year old just asked if we could go to Trainmaster (LHS) today–hopefully this will be on the shelf. But if not, it’s not like I need a reason to keep checking back [;)] Jamie

Jim is a old friend of my when dads when my dad used to work for BNSF a few years ago. How Jim had told me it BN had owned up to the Y and BN crews changed just befor the Y… or was it thats how BNSF dose it now… I can remember sorry for the mix up, but am going to go with you Andy and say your right.

I didnt think it would be out so soon. I want to see that On3 line with the old old trains.I liked the 1906 track plan I saw in the last issue ( or one before) of MR.Now there is something for us space starved modelers!!.

Hey Andy can we get some more layouts like that? What was the one based on turn of the century Iowa? Puye and Phuie?I have seen a G&D yahoo group. Are there any layouts devoted to John Allen, the Delta Lines. or others? I think and this is just opinion,a magazine devoted to layouts that depict 1920 and before might go well. hint hint lol.

What a great surprise!!! Wasn’t expecting it untill November. Where do they find all these layouts?
