I Replied to Metro Red Lines question, and it got me curiuos. How many model railroaders/train fans are drummers-we get a pretty bad rap-i’m hoping there are others that have discovered the pure joy that model railroading/trainfanning can bring. Some drummers can count past 4!! mick
Yeah? Go on, tell us… what’s next? [:-,]
Beat the drummers out of model railroading.
Well, “The Music Man,” was a drummer - but he actually played (the one and only) base.
(Beware of words with multiple definitions!)
Chuck (modeling Central Japan in September, 1964)
That would depend on what you classify as “drummers” ever since the introduction of “RINGO” (who admits that he was never a drummer) he couldn’t even hold the sticks properly, and the steady decline of drumming into grunge band beating, it seems to be, the word drummer will soon be eliminated from the vocabulary as all they do clank out a single note beat like an expensive metronome. Real drummers want to be drummers, take lessons on basic drumming, practise to improve and actually are part of the music and can actually use drums properly, try Earl Palmer, (a Real drummer) and some of the early jazz drummers( I can hear the laughing now) Maybe some day we will see a change in music from 3 guitars, 43 piano size amplifiers, and a guy sitting in front of a set of $50,000 drums clunking one stick on a snareless Slingerland–we can hope—does this sound like a rant?? what’s it doing on a Model Railroader forum??? just a comment, keep on ‘trainin’
If you want decent drumming try to get to see the Kodo drummers of Japan. Incredible! No disc can do them credit.
Chuck/Tomikawa, have you seen them?
I started a thread on 40 gallon drums which had at least one post mentioning their use in steel bands so this thrad isn’t so far from RR and MRR.
