just picked up a 4-8-2 USRA HEAVY MOUNTAIN

this is a cool bachmann

its the spectrum but im told that it will not run in reverse

I seen this same locomotive for $150

I paid $30

dont want to send it in for repair as that will cost $40 or $50 more (with shipping)

has this happed to one of yours what can make it go foward fine and not back

K

I would keep it. 30 bucks is a great price!!!

No joke!. You made off like a bandit Budliner…

To answer your question. Apparently someone didn’t break the loco in properly - like my buddy Rob, and only ran it forward…

Tracklayer

How do you know it will not run in reverse if you don’t try it? If it runs forward, it should certainly run in reverse. Maybe the person who sold it had a defective power pack?

I have a simlar unit and love the way it run’s

its an awsome loco

best price I have seen is $69 plus shipping for new

this tender has a missing ladder

but still a nice unit

K

hey thats just what I was thinking I need t test this one out cacole you read my mind

No joke!. You made off like a bandit Budliner heyyyyy tracklayer whats up …

have you grabed any new stuff

thanks for the quick replys

K

As a matter of fact I have. No locos lately, but I did buy three “old time” Atlas tank cars yesterday on ebay. I wish I could say I got a good deal on them. Oh well…

Ken

i have one too. Your’s is wierd because the engine doesn’t match the tender.
The SP Loco has a different # and the windowframes are red.
Check the orange plug with two wires. one wire might be missing. (happened on both of my wires, so mine doesn’t do squat, at the moment.

hoople

good eye

I did not see that the road # are different

thats got to be it

man I never dont get amazed with you guys

plenty of knowlage thanks

looks like tha’ts the heavy mountain locomotive… but I dont see that oil tender on there site!!!

must be an older one

K

Nice loco and a great deal. This is a little off topic but, how do you not break a loco in properly?

I had a few older pitman motors, and the carbon contacts had worn at a funny angle… the unit would get stuck when I tryed to run in reverse… I guess that same thing can happen if you only run in one direction but I bet its a rare occurrence!

K

Yeah, the SP one is out of production. (I have one :))

Back to what I was saying: The orange plugs. The one with two wires coming from it might be missing one wire. Solder that back in place and have some fun going backwards.

thanks hoople

thats the first thing I wil check

heck it may just end up going for a trip back to bachmann’

KEN

hey I just got this mixmatch engine and it runs in reverse just fine also has the red light in the fire box

guess that person had a bad pack

I was adding kadees and the front mount is a bit strange, so I just have one loose in the pocket as I cant seem to fit the spring in with it. maby one of the new type kadee with wiskers is the trick that works

seems like the trailing truck likes to jump off (may be my track)

all in all grat locomotive and looks like it won’t need a trip back to the factory

Ken

well I was running this bachmann and it just stopped…

I opened the tender to find the weight shifting around

what I did was to insulate the weight with some styreen and were good to go

great running locomotive

but that missing ladder is driving me crazy… lol

K

Congrats on the purchase, it’s a beaut piece of hardware and at that price… YOINK!

thanks agamemnon

whats a good way to fix the tender its missing the ladder ?

I never have luck with CA on that plastic
