Just picked up this Atlas O boxcar...how old is it?

Just picked up this O gauge Illionois Central box car.The bix is stamped Made in Austria.Mids 70s vintage?

Possibly a little more recent than 1970s?

Is yours a 50’ PS1? I wonder why the “dot” on the rail emblem is over the wrong half of the rail head?

Good Luck, Ed

The manufacturer must have inadvertantly inverted the photo before making the original mask.

Well, if there was only one car with the misplaced dot, it’d likely be worth a bundle, eh?

Lol!I guess so!paid $12.50 for it and it has fixed couplers.

No 40’

The box is the give away for the Atlas O line of the 70’s. The cars and locomotives can still be found at train shows. I have picked up the cars in the box for $10 - $15 at shows.

Rivarossa also had O gauge at the same time.

Paid a decent price …not a scratch on it!

For &diety’s sake DON’T repaint it ! 1) Stuff like this is honey to collectors 2) From a “history of the hobby” standpoint, it’s a valuable exhibit 3) It wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer built or painted a model that was proposed but never adopted (Athearn’s DD40 http://ho-scaletrains.com/athearn-emd-dd40/4) The prototype doesn’t always get it right either (I remember a Pacific Great Eastern car with “PEG” reporting marks)

No it is mint so it will stay as it is!

While I await the arrival if the new Lionel spring trucks,I added aluminum weights and added a crane body as cargo. The doors usually pop open so it is cool to add something.

Ok the new trucks have arrived and have been mounted up!Very cool!
