I had just purchased a 2002 lionel amtrak dash 8. And I am on a buget . What is the best way to run this train, a transformer or a remote.

I assume you are talking about an O scale locomotive. Go to the top of this page to Trains.com Sites, then click on Classic Toy Trains. I am sure you will get more help there.
This part of the MR forums is mostly folks with N and HO scale, though many of us have or have had some Lionel or American Flyer in our lives, we aren’t as current as the folks over there.
