Just want to show my latest work. It takes some time to do but it’s very fun. My plan is to cover everything with cardboard strips, masking tape, Joe Fugate’s vermiculite mix and rock molds from Bragdon Enterprises. The water will probably be envirotex. The hanging bridge will be located to the left. As you can see I printed out a BIG paper with a color laser to make it easier to place things. It works great and I can really recommend it if you want to build your model close to the prototype. I will model rocks on both sides of the bridge (as in the prototype). That will force the viewer to look at the bridge from a certain direction. Look at the last of these 5 photos, that is the direction from where you can see the bridge when the rocks are in place.
Thanks, nice to hear. The curves begin a few inches outside my module to the right and left. So when the next two modules is built there will be lots of curves.
Here is a better photo, my module is between the red arrows.
Very impressive so far Electo, looks like a fantastic subject to model, the benchwork looks great too, glad to see you got your supply issues resolved and have made great progress, please keep us up to date as I am definately keen to watch this proceed. Keep up the great “work”
You have REALLY come a long way since you submited your first layout for critique. AND, you have REALLY done your homework. I have always said, the RESEARCH is the hard part when following prototype. I am modeling the New Haven Railroad in the transition era, which is over 50 years ago and 2,000 miles away from Sunny Scottsdale, AZ. NOTHING compared to what you are doing distance wise. BTW, I have traveled through the area, going through Price and Helper on the way from Bryce Canyon to Flaming Gorge on the Green River. A great area to model. No need to ask, but keep up the good work and keep us posted.
Quite a challenging prototype to model. It is really some unique bridge and I am impressed with what you have done so far. I would mention that the dark colored tall cardboard may need some additional support at the edge of the benchwork. Hate to see it get hit and damage all the rock work.
Thanks guys for the very nice comments. I’m really honored to be compared to guys like Pelle Soeberg. I really hope I can live up to that in the end. The hardest bit for me is to get all dimensions of the prototype. I have several hundred pictures of the hanging bridge and the surroundings. Without these pictures I could not build this. I want to thank the owners of the pictures. You know who you are. They are all gentlemen that help other model railroaders without wanting anything in return. All styrene for the bridge is ordered and will arrive within 10 days.
Here are 32 more photos. Uploaded to my Photobucket with a feature called Flock for PC and Mac. Drag and drop many pictures at once. I love it! Fast and easy.
