Remember the recent discusion on “staging yards”?
Well I just stumbled on this-
"Trains Staging - Trains holding at a point on line for release to move into a terminal".
which is here:-
http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/funfacts/rrtalk/train.shtml
(Apologies to those of you who love to hate UP).
I don’t know if the modellers who originally came up with the idea/name got it from this concept but, as most of us model some sort of “terminal” facility (however small our modelled yard) it seems plausibe that a “staging yard” is somewhere [representing] "points on line holding trains for relaease into our terminals…
Doesn’t it?

[Trains Walking - When a track defect, such as a broken rail, has been determined by the Engineering Department to be passable at “walking speed.”]
Sure hope that will not be the reason I run my beloved UP trains slowly around the new layout when it comes time.
Seriously though, found that page to be an interesting read. Always learning something new here. [C):-)] Rob
I can agree with that but a “Slow Order” is a great way of keeping trains on scene longer when running at a show. On double track a gang working on one line can slow things down and either make a contrast to trains running the othervway on the clear line or cause hot shots to move over and run “opposite main”. It all adds to the variety of your display.
