any body own one of these? Curious as to how the run, smoke and how’s the horn?

I don’t own one but saw them at the train shops. To me they look kind of small as far as O gauge is concered even 0-27 for that matter, but it might be great for some people.

Some people say it’s closer to S gauge.

Laz is correct on the size. It is 1/64 ( S gauge) on O gauge trucks. Others have reported that they are good runners. I can’t say how the smoke is.

I have one and purchased it without cruise control. That version worked until one of the drivers failed (front I think). I had the cruise control kit and followed its instructions and it did not fix the problem. Sent it back to Kline they fixed it (the kit did not say the wires between the lead and back motors needed to be reversed). It worked for a while (less than a week) and the other driver failed. I sent it back and got it back and it has been working ok for the past 4 months. My one complant with it is that it is jerky at slow speeds.

We reviewed it in our Nov 03 issue. Per Bob Grubba at the time, he said that the Allegheny was 1:58 scale and the Big Boy (reviewed in the Jan 03 issue) was 1:64.

I have one in the C&O roadname. Had it about 3 months and it runs great. Smoke has the fan unit and performs great, no complaints…Tim

I’ve had one for close to a year now, and it’s by far my favorite loco - and my only “high dollar” loco, the rest are either Williams or PostWar (and a few Beeps). Smokes enough for me, doesn’t fill the room with a choking plume like some other makes I’ve seen. Sounds are great IMHO, but I don’t have anything else (with a sound board) to compare it to. Scale is 1:58 (NOT 1:64) and looks great pulling a string of postwar/non-scale cars, would probably look small with scale ones. It will pass cleanly through Lionel O27 switches, but watch the overhang on curves less than O42. I don’t have TMCC yet, but the Lionel guys at the train show I bought it at (lightly used) graciously let me test it out on their TMCC demo circle - VERY COOL, to a non-command guy like me. Having this engine is the only reason I’ll someday add TMCC to my layout (once I rebuild it after the move to SC). Ultra-slow speed is a problem, but normally is on a conventional-only (non-command) layout. Actually not much of a problem for me, since I prefer speed over scale crawling. The pilot has had an occasional problem with jumping on a K-Line switch or two, but I believe that’s more switch than loco related. Mine is a pre-cruise model, so no comment there, other than I have no desire to add it. Handled my rough-as-a-cob tubular trackwork fine without any stalls, although I did trim a little off the drawbar to stop some occasional grounding on the center rail.
