Hi. I’m wondering if someone could explain the mechanics of this beacon? It has a vibrator motor and a rubber washer with feet, but also a paper washer that goes between the rubber washer and the beacon head itself. I am continually having to “mess with” the paper washer or even replace it ( I am now making my own) to keep the beacon rotating properly. I have read about using graphite as a lubricant but am not sure it applies to a beacon with paper washer. What purpose does the paper washer serve and is there a way to prolong its longevity? Thanks for any help.
Well, I’ve never had a K-line beacon. But I have a Lionel beacon, and it doesn’t use a paper washer. Is it possible that your paper washer is just for packing during shipment? How does the beacon work without the paper washer?
I too have a Lionel Rotating Beacon and there has never been a paper washer. The beacon works so much better with a little shot of graphite.
I have the beacon and it DOES have the washer (not packing, there’s extra in the package for replacement). It’s just something that allows the beacon head to turn better on the rubber washer, it prevents it from sticking so graphite would replace the paper washer. Make sure it’s sitting level too, if it’s off balance it doesn’t work as well.
