Kadee 308 locations?

I got my 10 Kadee 308 magnets today and need some help. If I understand it right I can place them in 2 different ways, look at the pictures.

What is the best way to do it, pros and cons?

A is the best option.

  1. One magnet is all that is needed. Saves time, work and magnets.
  2. With the magnet on the lead as in option "A” you can couple or uncouple a slightly longer train than the capacity of each yard track if the need should ever arise.

The magnet should be placed so that it is centered on a straight length of track at least as long as your two longest cars. If you lead is actually on a curve that prevents hands off coupling and uncoupling then option “B” might be better.

Electro,

I am generally not in favor of permanent, static magnets. Anytime you stop a train on that yard lead, you will get an uncoupling if cars are aligned over the magnet. This could happen a lot as you are sorting cars or building trains. One modeler I know used a whole bunch of permanent magnets on sidings and the main and running at his layout can drive one a little crazy because of unintentional uncouplings.

I might mount them so they are removeable, which might kill realism a bit. If you mount them permanently, I would use them sparingly. Some modelers mount magnets to a board on a hinge that raises up for uncoupling and lowers down when not in use to prevent un-wanted uncoupling…

Does anyone have advice on replacing the Rapido rear coupler on an N Scale LifeLike E8? Does Microtrains make a coupler for it? If so what number. Appreciate any advice or information.
