i bought some of these lil guys awhile ago, i still have them , but i don’t have the screws to connect them to my cars with (i know, im pathetic haha), they werent in the package, so what size screws do u fellas reccommned so that i can install them and not dream about installing them?
thanx all
They fit in many cars’ existing coupler pockets and then you can use the car’s original coupler box cover. If you’re assembling the entire “box” and all try tapping the car for a 2-56 screw and attaching them with that.
If you’re mounting the Kadee coupler box, you’ll need a #50 drill bit, and a 2-56 tap. Radio Shack sells packets of 2-56 screws in various lengths.
Instead of Radio Shack, check your local Ace Hardware for 2/56 screws. Yes, I know Ace is expensive, but not as expansive as Radio Shack.
Now, if you really need lots and lots of small screws, washers, nuts, etc., you can get them much cheaper by purchasing them in lots of 50 or 100 from http://www.microfasteners.com
when mounting mine on wood or plastic, i will use a #2 sheetmetal screw with a socket head for simplicity and ease of installation. they cut their own threads. you find them in the airplane section of your local hobby shop.
use the 2-56 wood screws not the nuts & bolts…the 2-56 nuts & bolts are a lot smaller than the screws and the screws can also self-anchor themselves into styrene…KADEE makes a 2-56 screw tap which comes with the right size drill bit to start the hole…try not to use the self tapping screws without drilling a hole first…i’ve used them once and they have a bad habit of tearing the styrene sideways instead of piercing a perfectly round hole through it…chuck
