Did Kadee ever sell HO engines? Someone told me they have a Kadee engine. I can not find any reference to engines on their web site. If they did, who made them and in what time frame? Thanks
I don’t think Kadee has ever made an engine. Their core business has always been couplers, trucks, wheelsets, and rolling stock. Micro-Trains, an N-scale spinoff by one of the Kadee founding brothers, also concentrates on couplers, trucks, wheelsets, and rolling stock.
I think someone is yanking your chain. I’ve been in the hobby 40+ years and have never seen or heard of a Kadee locomotive.
Not KD but MT.MT makes a N Scale FT.

And Nn3 Scale.

Plus Z Scale.
KD does makes a fine line of HO boxcars and a PS covered hoper.
This is probably coming off ebay. I have seen engines listed as Kadees. The one guy I called on it said I was nuts because it clearly said Kadee on the coupler covers. Nuff said!
Yep. Like my Athearn B 30 that morffed into a Bachman unit in the mail from an E Bay deal.
Came nicely packed in an Athearn blue box too.[:P]
Doubt it. Originally was Kadee Metal Product Co. An engine would be an exception.
Wheels, yes. Couplers, yes. some freighr cars, yes.
Thanks for all the responses. Kadee coupler box sounds like a great explanation. I should try that with an old Bachmann or Model Power.
I scored a “Kadee” Santa Fe diesel loco off E-Bay a while back. It did say Kadee on the coupler box covers, but the shell was a Rail Power Dash-8 and the drive was a OMI drive for it. I paid under $30 including shipping!
I only made the bid on this because of what I saw in the photos. The brass sideframes and the underside view were dead give aways, so I always check the listing if I see a “Kadee” loco now.
Hello Group and Moldy Oldie,
Kadee has never market an engine in HO or other scales. There have been many who have ask this question but after researching the particular locomotive they claimed to be a “Kadee” locomotive we found that the mistake was in fact the coupler box was the only thing that said Kadee on it. Dale Edwards, the owner of Kadee (now 86) tells many stories of the early days of Kadee and some “thoughts” of making locomotives and many other things that never made it to market.

Your friend may have been thinking Kato but said Kadee.
