I just picked up a pair of Walthers Amfleet cars, and was wondering how I could mount Kadee couplers on them. They use an unusual draft-gear box. Not only does the couple pivot from side to side, so does the box. Thanks in advance,

I don’t own the Amfleet but have owned others with that swing feature.
According to www.kadee.com/conv/list.htm the amfleet takes a #5.
Chris, I have a 5-car set, 4 Amfleet & 1 Horizon,
coupled as close as I could with Kadee #23 in the original boxes with the edges trimmed back slightly and the diaphragm springs softened to allow a bit of slack, but still almost touching{5-10 thou. clearance } on the straight. These will go round a 26" radius{just!}. Takes a bit of fiddling and experimentation, but looks and runs good, good-luck, Dave Elbourne, Rugby, England.
I tried #23s on the cars, but they kept derailing on curves. The shanks weren’t long enough. So, I used a pair of #5s. Thanks again!
After screwing around with them for awhile, #5s drop right in. Thanks!
I used the #26, long shank on my Walther Budds to get around the 24" recommended radius but I hate their wheel drag.
That Kato business car wheel set beats out the budd but the budd has a superior lighting system. Too bad
we can’t get the best in both.
