I’ve recently acquired a pair of AHM/Rivarossi 2-8-2 Mikados dressed in C&O from the early 80’s. They both still have the factory installed horn-hook couplers. I’m having a hard time finding information on converting these to Kadee’s. To my surprise, Kadee’s website lists just about every AHM/Riv conversion except the 2-8-2’s. Anybody have experience with this conversion? Where did you start? What coupler kits did you use? Is there a good website or article in a magazine describing this conversion?
Not sure what the AHM locos look like, but take a look at the conversion information for the IHC 2-8-2. I have printed out the information and gotten the needed parts, just haven’t gotten around to do it. If yours looks similar, it’s a place to start.
I have a GN Rivarossi Mike and mounted a Kadee #6 to the tender and a short shank, whisker to the front. The front required some work with a Dremel to clean out the fake coupler. Both couplers work well on my puppy.[C):-)]
