Am looking to convert both the streamline (4 of these) and the harriman (2). Don’t know whether to try the talgo adapter with #5s or ??. I’ve never used the talgo adapters. The trucks are them slippery plastic and won’t take glue. I cut one factory coupler off and bolted on a plastic extension with a couple 2-56 screws and that holds a #5 draft gear real well. If the talgo adapter works, that’d be even less work. Ideas appreciated. Thanks for sharing.

TALGO trucks / couplers are an inexpensive design for layouts with too-tight curves. The pronlem is when backing up.
The answer is to cut off the coupler part and sub a body mount - providing your curves and car lengths permit. If the trucks are made with a ‘slippery’ plastic, you might be a good candidate for metal wheels. That adds weight where you want it.
The problem is layouts with too tight curves.
One possibility is to modify the Model Power streamlined underframe for Athearn streamlined talgo trucks. It is easier to put Kadee couplers on Athearn talgo trucks than modifying the original Model Power talgo trucks for Kadee couplers.
yep, kadee.com, was my first stop, thanks! tight curves, you’re right there, too, 22 and sometimes 18. converting to Athearn, didn’t think of that. might just be the way to go. I’ll do some experimenting tonight. Thanks for the tips!
stopped by fort wayne hobby land yesterday and got some odds and ends, incl a pkg of #28 kadees as recommended on their site. perfect. I also ordered a pkg of the talgo adapters for the other cars. oh yeah, odds and ends included a new engine and other stuff. nice visit to the lhs it was!
#5’s no good for passenger, Kadee has all kinds of adapting suggestions, but I always had derailment problems with truck mounted couplers.
You need a coupler with longer shank. Sharp curves are not a problem, its how you EASE into the curve.
