Have any of you found ANYTHING from Kalmbach Publishing remotely useful for diesel era reference materials? I just purchased the Model RR Guide to Locomotive Servicing Terminals, and I must say, it will be more useful as fire starter. 80 pages for $18.00. My monthly Model Railroader typically has 130 pages (granted, some advertising) and my subscription was something like $16 for a year. I opened up the new book (booklet?) to find 52 pages of steam era, 7 pages for diesel, 11 pages for modeleing a steam era facility, and 8 for diesel. Very little information was given on available construction supplies and suppliers (structures, pumps, service facility items) or techniques. Is this common? I just got back from the Illinois RR Museum, and I almost bought a few books on the Santa Fe, but I couldn’t justify $50 each. Is there no alternative? Where should I look? I NEED HELP!!![xx(]
Thanks for letting me vent a little!!
Tim
I have had the best luck at (ironically) the library. You can request most of the pricey specialty books. I also haunt Ebay for the good books cheap…Haven’t had much luck, but hope springs eternal. I don’t model diesel, but I’m sure others on the list can give you some titles to look for…
