Kanamodels Kits

Hi everyone,

Has anybody had any experience with Kanamodels Kits. I understand that they are laser cut kits and they are of mainly canadian buildings but that is all I know.

I would be grateful for any input…

I built this CPR style water tower about five years ago. It was straightforward with good instructions. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to putting kits of any kind together. I was willing to take some deep breaths with this one. It was my first higher quality kit.

Selector until you said something, I had always assumed that it was a REALLY tweeked out Atlas watertower. In either case, it looks good.

Hi Colin.

I have built the Grain Elevator Complex kit that includes the office, grain bin and elevator. I have on the shelf the “two outhouse” kits and the “engine service facility” that includes the coaling tower, sand tower and enclosed water tower.

I used (as suggested by forum members) carpenter glue for construction and it was perfect for the task. I also found using magnets on a circular saw blade worked well to hold things in square while the glue dried. As far as painting goes I used cheap craft acrylics on the bin and office and Krylon spray on the elevator. I found the Krylon spray left a much better finish on the elevator. In fact it looked a little too pristine and will require more work to give it that haggard look. The two buildings I did with a brush and cheap Acrylics look more like the hastily built, poorly painted structures you would see on the Prairies. The hundreds of photo’s I looked at of real elevators showed lots of bare wood where the the painters completely missed spots while painting, and some structures were never were painted at all.

Some say paint before assembly, others say paint after. I did both and at this stage I think I prefer the paint after method. If you paint before building make sure you place the pieces between some weighted flat surfaces while they dry to prevent the wood from warping. I just used some wax paper and hardboard with a brick for this.

I was feeling a little intimidated before I took the plunge and started building as they were the first MRR wood kits I had attempted. I found them easy builds though. I use to design and build high performance R/C aircraft from scratch and once I reminded myself of that I got on with it.

Read the instructions thoroughly, several times over, and there will be no problems. One mistake I made when I got distracted was I installed a siding panel upside down. It even says in the instructions to be careful not to do that. I don’t think I’ll do that again (learning curve)

I need to

Thanks, Trynn Allen. I have either the Atlas or a Walthers water tower, not sure, that I erected for my first layout. It wasn’t pretty when I was 'done with it", LOL!
