Map of the month showing UP daily movements seemed to centre the most traffic around Kansas City. I realize Chicago sees a huge amount of traffic, [;)] but Kansas City sure looks pretty hot! [:0] [:)] [:p]
With the other class 1 roads added, would kansas City run a close second to Chicago for number of trains daily? [:)]
A line in that song read “and Kansas City is mighty pretty” if my memory is correct.
Route 66 ran from “Chicago to LA” and at the western end ran past Summit in Cajon Pass on the AT&SF. The current Interstate is nearby but not as good for trainwatching as the old road which is still there.
Yes, I’m pretty sure KC is second only to Chicago in railroad traffic. IIRC, it surpassed St. Louis in that category a few years back.
I’m not as familiar with Kansas City as I should be. I read the news about purchasing a bunch of equipment and establishing a rail museum to keep the old Union Station viable. Can’t they just mention that it’s a great place to watch trains (is it?)? And maybe make sort of an urban Rochelle out of it?
