What is the name of BNSF yard where I635 crosses Kansas Avenue, and further north the UP yard that runs beside I70 coming in from Topeka area?
Thanks I saw the road to the right but it looked like it went nowhere, I’ll check it out if I get back to KC.
BNSF Yard under I-635 at Kansas Avenue/Ks32 is Argentine Yard (Ex-ATSF, Including new hump yard & bowl tracks)
UPRR Yard along south side of I-70 Is Armourdale
(ex-UPRR to East & North, Ex CRIP/SSW to West & South[Rock Island Hump Yard(s) removed])
Both yards do not resemble what they appeared like in the 1980’s, both have evolved significantly to stay fluid.
Thanks, did not have but about 1 1/2 hour to look around before catching plane back home to NC. I had city map and saw NS over at Union Station going west/south. I notice when coming in on I70 from the west after passing UP yard that there was railroads and bridges everywhere and I believe they all had trains going an coming. I was trying to find Santa Fe junction and was told to go over and around Kemper arena and take a right but did not find, but did as I see now find Argentine yard, do you know how to get to Santa Fe junction?
You were exactly where you needed to be for Santa Fe junction. With the 23rd St. viaduct closed due to contruction, it is a little confusing, but if you follow the road that goes west of Kemper south(does that make sense?), right before you go up the ramp to 23rd St., there is a road on the right. You may have been confused since right at the entrance to the road there is a sign for the parking lot that is right there. If you follow the road as it curves a little, you’ll run right in to the junction. Just keep the railroad bridge in sight(KCT/UP) and you can’t miss it. There is also a way in from Southwest Blvd., but it is a little more complicated if you don’t live here!! Terry
