I have a similar Mantua (Tyco) 0-4-0 so am happy to see this is doable. Now I won’t have to relegate it to a park scene. I look forward to the September article.
Great Job, I well look forward to reading about in the September, issue
Interesting. I look forward to reading about this. This may be something to consider in the future to convert some of my larger steamers eventually.
Keep 'em rolling!
Very nice. Good job.
Excellent article! I have an 0-4-0 that I want to add sound and this is timely information.
Karl
Great job. I have recently installed a KA2 in a brass engine and what a difference. Love the 0-4-0 and it runs great. I have one and will have to look up the re motor you used. Did you re gear it too?
Thanks for sharing
Ray
Looks good. Nice sound on the video too.
My first locomotive was a Mantua 0-4-0 received from Santa 45 years ago. Still have it on my layout!
Dang I knew getting rid of my old Mantua “yard goat” would come back to haunt me…LOL Nice job Karl. What’s the story on the dockside? Does she have sound too?
I am surprised how well the little locomotive handles the rough track. Excellent job of repowering and adding sound to a classic little locomotive!!
It is amazing what sound does. Just imagine what the G&D and ALP would have been like with today’s sound systems. I have the G&D video which has a few scenes with the sound of the trains. Beautiful visually but all you could hear was the grinding sounds of the electric motors and the noise of the cars’ wheels against the rail. The sense of hearing has finally been applied to our model worlds. Excellent video!
I’ve got one of those little engines. I’d at least re-power it as you did! What a difference in operation.
Todd W. Yes, the docksider has sound, see the january 2013 issue. Ray, I didn’t regear the 0-4-0 other than the new worm that came on the motor.
To everyone, thanks for the compliments. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed breathing new life into these old locos!
That thing runs like a Swiss watch! Nice job!
Will there be a run on Ebay? I was skeptical of all the effort—Great results!!
I have two of these loco’s and usually run them in tamdem on a logging branch line i have DCC to hook up as yet so this has made me more determined thanks great sound
Impressive. Looking forward to September article.
Very nice.
Well done.
