Kaslo Shops new SDP40-2 Amtrak locomotive

I just received confirmation from John Whitmore at Kaslo shops that they will be doing the SDP40-2 Amtrak locomotive. They will be as delivered to Amtrak with the peaked nose without notches and including steam generator details. His order number is HL-14. He is asking for a $45.00 deposit with the remaining $45.00 to be paid on delivery. Originally, he was not planning on doing the Amtrak loco but it is now going to be done along with the Santa Fe SDF40-2. I know I saw some discussion on this site about folks wishing the Amtrak loco would be done, here’s your chance. You can contact John at jwhitmore@shaw.ca for an invoice or Pay-Pal order. I hope this helps.

SDP40F?

Super news! Thanks.

Yes, me and several modelers I’ve spoken to have been wanting SDP40fs for the longest. Inspite of their problems they were Amtrak’s 1st brand new locomotives and although they were gradually replaced by F40s, these handsome cowls lasted on Amtrak until 1981.

I have many fond memories of seeing these six axle giants hauling the Silver Star, Silver Meteor, Floridian, and Champion here in Tampa. I was fortunate enough to befriend a couple of locomotive engineers that ran them. I was able to get a few cab interior photo shots, and yes, even a short cab ride on one trip from Tampa to St. Petersburg.

It was an impressive spectacle seeing a pair of these hauling 15 car long trains! Seems like yesterday.

Yes the SDP40F in the as delivered to Amtrak version. It is going to be designed to fit the Athearn SD-50 chassis and should be delivered in the spring time 2007. Sorry for the confusion.
