THEY DOES RUN FINE TOGETHER.
It depends on which run of the Athearns you get. If it’s an old SD75M with a Buehler gold motor, it would be too fast to work properly with the Kato. The newer ones with the Roco silver motors run great with Kato diesels. I coupled my Kato SD80 and Athearn Genesis F3A together and they ran perfectly with each other.[:D]
I have coupled an Athearn AC4400 Ready to Run with a Kato SD90/43Mac and the speeds matched up very nicely and made for a power combo that would pull any consist I could dream up. The Athearn Genesis locomotives should also match up nicely with Kato engines also.
