I love the new Kato EMD NW2 switcher but I want to know this would be my first KATO product, I don’t think the couplers are Atlas/MT compatable, what are the options? [banghead]
I’m sure Micro Trains will have some to fit like they do the other Kato N-Scale engines.
This is defiantly going to be a nice engine!!! Now if they would only do a CF-7!!!

I’d be surprised if the Kato couplers don’t mate with MTL or Unimates. THey may not even require manual coupling by lifting one into the other. In either case, it won’t be long before MTL has a coupler that will fit. What is harder to predict is what kind of coupler box Kato will use.
THe loco has possibilities to make other EMD SW models. AFAIK several used the same wheelbase, but used different engine/radiator components for other HP needs. It could also be a candidate to make cheater boxcars for poor pulling steamers.
I got their mid production SD-40-2 and it backs into and couples to MT coupler cars just fine. The trip pin, as usual is an item you attach yourself. The couplers are kind of sucky and explode when MUing engines.
I trust the new NW2’s will be very nice looking and running switchers. They are advertised to be low geared.
