I have the Santa Fe C44-9W #669. I’d like to get the BNSF ones, but they’ve got incorrect windows and ditch lights. Other than that, the C44-9W runs extremely well, as does most any Kato.
I got 15 of them they run great.
I have one in Norfolk Southern Livery. It runs extremely well and is ver y well done. I dropped in a decoder to convert it to DCC and it is a pleasure to run. No light conversion needed either. Good Job Kato !!!
the Kato C44-9W’s are pretty good locomotives. the only problem is that they are correct for C&NW and early santa fe only. you only need to make a few detail changes to match units from other railroads. like pilot mounted ditchlights and air conditioners and different rooftop antennas.
I have 5 of them right now and i like them all. i have 1 Santa Fe, 2 Southern Pacific, and 2 Union Pacific. since UP has painted up basically all of the C&NW units, all you need to do is add the proper road number and add an air conditioner to the side.
Yep, I have two Kato C-44-9 Locomotives in UP, Road # 9702, and Road # 9726, and they run beautifully, even a little better than my new Kato AC-4400CTE # 5714, They are two of my top four or five Locos, in the running department, I love em. Sorry, no pics though.

I have two, one Santa Fe and one UP, both of which I’m trying to get rid off, too new for my modeling period.

I have two of the Southern Pacific models and they run extremely quiet, and have plenty of pulling power. I pull a 36- car loaded ore train plus caboose with them double headed, up a 2 percent grade, with no problems at all.
I agree !!!
Have 14 (7 BNSF, 2 UP, 1 CNW, 1 NS, 2 ATSF, 1 SP).
Okay, some details are incorrect but they run more than perfect !!!
IV’E GOT 6 KATO’S.
3 BNSF SD70MAC’S.
3 BNSF AC4400CW’S.
