Mine run fine, but Kato engines are not as quiet as they used to be. I suspect they have stopped using helical cut gears.

I have one of these A-B sets and am impressed with its very smooth operation. It is quiet and can pull the entire Daylight Passenger train (with additional cars) on level track. As much as I like this model, I don’t think that it can pull as much as its predessor Kato PA (I removed the engine from the B unit). Some day I will run tests on both units to see if I am right or just infatuated with the original set.

Hi, you say your review is abbreviated because you did a full review in July 2008, but unfortunately that review is not here. What is the minimum radius curve these units can cope with, please?
