Kato N Steam

Does any n-scaler out there know the minimum radius the Kato N scale Mikado will handle? I have a Bachmann 2-8-0 but it runs very poorly for some reason and after reading about Kato’s great steamer, I might want to try it.

Also does Kato still make F3s in n scale? How good are they?

What vintage is the Bachmann engine? If it’s one of the newer Spectrum one’s, it should run as well as the Kato Mike. If you’re having problems with it, send it back to Bachmann. They have a very solid warranty program.

I have a Kato Mike that I’ll be working on, and a curve that pinches down to about 12-13"r, When I get the decoder in it, I’ll check it out and let you know…

Hi from Belgium,

Modeling myself in Nscale I have severals Kato mike.

As a whole rule on my layout I didn’t have curve under a 40cm radius or 16inch and it’s a minimal for steam engines and good train running.

At this radius some overhang could be seen with the mikado; so if you have the place don’t use a curve under a 18inch minimal radius.

I have adopted this minimal radius on the new part of my layout.
