I have some of every brand of loco except Brodway Limited. The Katos are by far the best. Should I try to get Soundtrax DCC receivers into my Kato NW2s or go get new Broadway Limited ones with QSI sound?
I think you’d be hard-pressed to squeeze a sound system into a Kato NW2 without having to grind away a lot of the weight to make room for the speaker. I installed dime-sized decoders into Kato NW2s a few years ago and had to grind out a cavity in the weight just to fit these. The Broadway Limited frames are special castings that allow room for the decoder and speakers.

There is barely room to get a DCC decoder in the Kato NW2, let alone a speaker system! I have to admit that they run great, but that is a small pkg to fit a DCC sound system in!

Go with the broadway. They run very well and have the best sound system money can buy pre installed. I havent seen the kato NW2 so I don’t know how the running and pulling power compares, but the BLI should suit your needs very well.
