This is sort of an embarrassing question, but just how do you pronounce “Kato”? I always thought it was “Kate-o”, but I saw a Tracks Ahead episode (co-sponsored by Kato), and the voice-over pronounced it as “Cot-o”.
I believe they answer the phone in Schaumberg, Cat-O.
I understand that it is ahh - Kahhtoe, not Kaytoe. It is Japanese not American.
Roger
Roger is correct. Most American model railroaders I know say it wrong – with a long “a,” like “kay-toe” – but the Japanese pronunciation is “kah-toe,” with a short “a” as in “father.”
So long,

Andy, your trip a few years back to the the Japan
Kato Factory was indeed most educational.
i think the most common way to say it is Kay toe. If some one walk into the shop and pronounced it any other way we would give them a blank look and wonder what planet this cats from.I recall the big row over Athearn.Still pronouced wrong in most cases.
Been wating on you!Morgan.
Gee,It is nice to be missed! Now is that good or bad? LOL.
tomaaaaatoe
tomahhhhhtoe–buy there stuff and they wont care what you call them
Don
Don,I will not mention the unprintable names I have heard them called. I do like the one about the running on rice instead of electric.
More then likely. However around here there seems to be love/hate thing going on.Some guys that own the Kato loves to hate them…Don’t ask,I don’t get involved in these love/hate things.
But wouldnt everything we run be at least part rice fed??
It is good Larry.
