Kato releasing SD70ACe in n-scale?!?

Just saw this report in an email from Model Railroader at the 2008 National Train Show:

N scale locomotives … Electro-Motive Division SD70ACe in Union Pacific heritage schemes: Chicago North Western, Denver & Rio Grande Western, Missouri-Kansas-Texas, Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, and Western Pacific. … Kato USA Inc.”

Anyone already know of this? I did not see anything yet on the Kato USA website. This is news to me, and good news at that since I model modern day power in n-scale. Nice to see a new model come out, and being Kato just makes it that much better! [^]

PS: Also looks like the Kato SD70MAC will be soon available with the BNSF swoosh logo as well.

On the surface things appear to be just a little skimpy this year! That SD70ACe is my type of locomotive but I was particularly drawn to the announcements about Intermountain’s new AC and Athearn’s F45/FP45s and Micro’s heavyweight passenger cars and . . . . . . . . . .

What? You didn’t see those announcements? You need to go back an reread MR’s email!

I looked in on Atlas’ (N-Scale) website - I’ll look in on idiotboreddotcom a little bit later today - but as of yet none of the hangers-on over there have had anything to say about any new products.

Yes I did read the entire email and the other announcements, they just didn’t make me do laps around the house yelling, “Woo-hoo!” like the SD70ACe announcement did [:D] BTW, I also received a special newsflash from Atlas from the show stating that they are releasing an all new HO model for them, the EMD GP-40. Hard to believe they have never done a GP-40 before, but I have been out of the HO mainstream for a looooooooooooong time. Jamie

It’s about danged time! I’ve been wondering why the smaller scales ain’t got a model of this yet (other than brass). O-scalers have had theirs for a little while now, a year or better. IT’S OUR TURN! I wish they chose more paint schemes though. Norfolk Southern, CSX, not just UP…come on Kato…

Agree on the UP-only issue, but once they have the tooling in place, it’s a good bet you will see the other railroads released not too long afterwards. Of course, I’m sure I’ll snap up some of the UP anyway. Jamie

I’ll probably get at least one of the Heritage Units, unless they release an undecorated unit straight away with the UP batch. I’d pick up a couple of those. Now, just wonder what the price might be on these little gems…And when will they be coming out with GEVOs?

Wow they updated their site since I looked yesterday! Also, you can now by direct from Kato USA…yesterday when you clicked the Buy link, it took you to a dealer search page. Today, they actually have an online store. Big change for them! Jamie

This year’s stunner may be the Bachmann DCC dual mode 44T unit. For $100 list/$60 discount, Bachmann could have a sweet loco. The Hallmark Ornament NYC FT with 2 passenger cars could make a fun display piece for a Nscale yard. Another surprise may be the explosion of American models in Z scale.

Atlas already has a GP40, they"re doing a GP40-2 …
