I see that KATO sells the Salt Lake city track as a package deal… as someone already posted it is not wooden ties… Has anyone price the package with wood ties…? I model new england scenery and would like to tie this into my current layout… any thoughts???
There is no price for the package, as there is no package with wooden ties. Kato´s Salt Lake Route package includes those super-elevated double track curves, which are only available with concrete ties.
Why don´t you convert the track plan to use, say , Atlas code 55 track, instead of the expensive (and in my opinion, ugly looking ) Kato Unitrack?
You get your wooden ties and a much better looking track work!
I changed the plan to single track on the left side to give it a little challenge to operate, but a double track version can be done as well.
Conrailran, you could use the regular Kato Unitrack and not use the superelevated curves with concrete ties. You would lose that super-evelevated “modern curve look” but it could still be done. I do like the MR Salt Lake layout. As Maddog pointed out you can try the layout in any track brand. Atlas code 55 or 80 or Peco 55 or 80. Good luck with your decision.
