Couldn’t resist a third Spectrum Consolidation either.

You may want to call before you go next time. Make sure they don’t add anything new…[:D][:D][:D]
You might want to remove the shell of the Atlas Trainmaster and make sure the chassie is free of zinc pest. I have two of them and only one has the rot.
Well, I wasted a bunch of time today on the Kato GP35. Geez I hate it when people wire locomotives backwards just to run them “in reverse”. DCC must mystify some people. Mind you the Digitrax instructions for installing their recommended decoder (not the one actually in there, that was the dismally primitive DH 121) were weird.
In the end I just took out the decoder for now and fit a dummy plug. I intend to take out the strange plastic piece Kato put in and fit a TCS A4X instead with LED soldered direct. This early Kato “lightboard” is just silly by modern standards.
The SD 40 pair are just brilliant by comparison. Man these Kato’s can pull. These also have Digitrax decoders and are running very well in DC mode. Haven’t pulled the shells yet to see which ones. Totally impressed with the smooth and quiet running.
My first foray into Kato was a very old and very primitive RS3 which is missing a handrail (I hate that). It’s a bit noisy too. It impressed me enough to branch out and buy more recent and better Kato product. I’m not disappointed. I bought an RS2 which runs very well.
