Right now I have one of Kato track plans down, my benchwork is plywood with 2"foam on top. My question is, Kato lists where to place the wiring to make the trains run, now if I decide to change the laylout to my own how do I know where to place the wires on what tracks so they run ok? Wiring is not my fun thing to do.
Forgive a very ignorant question;
Do the Kato track plans come in a book? If so, look at other track plans which look similar to your planned change. They should give you the information you need.
If that doesn’t work, post a specific question (with track diagrams, if possible) on the Electronics and DCC forum. The electron-chasers there will be happy to help.
There are also some publications on basic wiring that our hosts sell. You might want to go to the SHOP icon at the top of the page to check out their offerings.

Back On Topic, somebody in another thread suggested the Atlas guide, Wiring your HO Layout, as a very good source of basic wiring info. Might be worth a try.[8D]
My problem is that, if I start, I could write my own book and provide information overkill! I’ve been wiring model railroads for about 60 years.[dinner]
