Kato vs. Atlas motor

I am seriously thinking about putting a brand new motor with flywheels in my older Con-Cor GP40. It is very quiet, and pulls well, but is a bit of a power hog.
My question is, which motor is the quietest, Kato or Atlas.

I think you will find the Kato motor is the more reliable of the two. David Harrison of “The Great Train Show” at the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry frequently claims that the most reliable diesels are from Kato with Athearn Genesis running a close second place.

Apparently an inablilty to replace motor brushes on Atlas motors condemns them to relatively short lives on a layout where the trains can literally run up to 8 (I think that’s the number) real miles a day continuously.

Thanks Jeff.
It’s funny how you can resolve issues by yourself after posting a question. I realized from previous posts that the motors I have are not the noise problem, but the the components around it. I will order the Kato motor and replace my old power hog Kato motor.

'S funny, but I don’t recall any “power hog” Kato motors - ever. Is it possible you have another, different, problem? ???

ConCor products are a whole different ball game, as they don’t MAKE anything.

Do you have or use an AMMETER to tell you how much power you are actually consumming - or is that your problem?

SPEED is a byproduct of RPM and gearing. NOISE is a byproduct of vibration. (Changing motors can affect both).
