Kato's AC4400CW - with flag...

This thread is devoted to my old buddy wctransfer for a remark he made on the “UP disrespectful of flag” thread…

I personally like the Kato AC4400CW - especially because it has a US flag on its side to show national pride… As long as it’s used respectfully, I have no problem with any railroading equipment the flag is placed on real or model.

Well said! [tup]

Yes sir… Now that’s what I’m talking about! ([;)]). Thank you kevnbety.

I see someone is a hard core UPRR fan.
Allan.

One of my favorites…

Having the flag painted on the side of a locomotive is nowhere near as disrespectful as wearing clothing with a flag pattern on it, especially if the entire garment looks like it has been cut from a flag.

I like the Canadian paint scheme, except that the US flag should have been turned the other way… It’s supposed to be displayed with the stars to the left.
Oh well. It’s not the end of the world.

Thanks for your contribution TA462.

What are you going to do…
I am not the biggest fan of that scheme, because when it gets even slightly dirty, it is no longer charismatic.

I know you are not talking about me, are you Allan? [swg]

I kinda like the flared SD70M’s…

I agree with the statement with showing respect to our flag and that it should be properly displayed. With that said (and not wanting to “split hairs”), the top photo above of 'ol glory is displayed correctly; the second is not.

Anytime our flag is flown or displayed, the blue star field (or union) is ALWAYS to be in the upper left corner. The flag in the bottom photo is backwards, and therefore, is not being displayed correctly or properly.

For those of you who are interested, the following link shows you all the correct ways to fly or display our beloved flag: http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

Tom

Although it’s not the correct to display it on the right hand side of the loco, if the flag were going the other direction, it wouldn’t make sense with the direction the loco is moving (provided it’s a forward-facing loco).

Sort of like flames on the side of a car, etc.

Hello CARRfan. Not to argue or offend, but the paint scheme on the Canadian engine is the inncorrect way to display the flag - period!. No acceptions… The same goes for UP, which should have turned the flag the other way on the right side of thier engines simply because it’s the proper and correct way to do so if for no other reason than out of respect. Car flames are car flames, but the US flag is something altogether different.

CARRfan,

I understand your point. But, I’m don’t “salute” flames on the side of a car…nor does it reflect the country of which I am a citizen of.

Tom

I totally hear both of you - just offering an explanation of why that was probably done.

I have no strong opinions either way.

If you go to that site a scroll down until you see the Capital One credit card. That the reason I posted my thread.I was not trying to bash U.P…

Image of a flag vs material from actual flag.

To end this:
“The flag decals have the union (the blue area with the stars) on the side closer to the front of the plane. On the plane’s left, the decal shows the flag with the union at the left, as usual. On the plane’s right side, the union is on the right. This is done so that the flag looks as if it is blowing in the wind created by the forward movement. You can see this on cars and trucks as well. Click to see pictures of the flag decals on Air Force 1.”
From the website link above, but nobody follows those rules anyways.
