One of KCS’s new locomotives, with a few of the matching hoppers, on the head end of a grain train leaving the north end of UP’s Basin yard, Houston, Texas, where both the Basin lead and PTRA’s north yard lead merge into the Houston East Belt subdivision.
Nice looking locomotive and the hoppers are pretty distinctive.
Hey Ed !
I wondered how long it was going to take you to get some pics of these…I understand theyve been in Houston a couple of weeks now…Have you seen the SP heritage unit yet? I understand from a friend of mine in in the Hou-Beaumont area as well doing some refinery safety programs via UP…Nice to see your still amoung us…
Great pictures - nice to know that not all of the KCS motive power is stuck on UP sidings between Houston and Corpus Christi!
dd
ps - anyone have an update on the status of the Roseville - Victoria rebuild for KCS?
One of those came through Missoula at the head of a grain train on Monday…and, of course, I didnt have my camera handy when I saw it…they are sharp looking units! I didn’t see any of the new grain hoppers in the consist, though.

Danny,
You looking for this guy?
Third unit on a stack train passing tower 13, running out the UP Terminal subdivision…also know as the old SP Ballpark sub.
Think it was last Sunday…around 1300…
…As I mentioned several weeks ago, two of them passed thru Muncie here, coming in from the west on the Frankfort Line…{NS}, and they were the only power on the train. Believe they had covered hoppers for most of the consist but not painted dark color like in Ed’s pic’s.
Well,
I wasnt looking ,but I wondered when my friend told me about them if you had seen them, and why you havent been on here lately…You usually post new stuff pretty quick and I hadnt seen anything from you in a while,or maybe I miised it…Does KCS have an interchange in Houston ,Beaumont ordo they just come thru on BNSF and UP?
Take care,
Danny,
KCS interchanges with the UP at Englewood, (East Yard), BNSF at New South Yard, and the PTRA at North Yard.
Can’t speak for the others, but we build them a train a day, between 60 to 100 cars.
They have trackage rights through Houston on the UP, part of the SP/UP merger package.
Been busy with a side business I just started up…and I have not had the time to shoot many photographs, nor post much on the forum.
Ed,
Well its nice to hear from you…Please keep posting tho, there arent many of us in Tx that post…
Good luck with your new business…
Less than a month a go I saw two brand new KCS engines rolling through Springfield,Ohio.
Most likely in transit from the manufacturer, quite a site in these parts.
