On my way home from work this evening I saw what must have been the entire fleet of KCS business cars in St Paul MN. They were behind CP power rolling down the BNSF St Paul sub. (Usual route for CP trains between Shoreham Yard & CP St Paul Yard). I was wondering if they were in BC for the Olympics and heading home now.
I tried to follow it but I got too far behind in traffic. I heard a staticy transmission on the scanner "St Paul yard, call business train arrived at 18:00. " Then a little later “when do you want to cut the E-units in?” So maybe the Belle is here too.?
The set of F-units did not go up to Vancouver for the Olympics. As we heard it around northern Illinois when the cars went up about a month ago, they were going to be used by the Canadian Pacific as extra space to wine and dine their shippers and others during the games. I’d guess that they were using them as extra (and probably cheaper) hotel space during the games.
I saw a picture of the train going through the Quad Cities (Davenport, IA) from the other day taken by someone else, and it had a Canadian Pacific GE (#8806?) leading the business cars. They probably had a rider or two along on the train for trouble-shooting and whatever to keep an eye on them, but the move up and back were basically deadhead moves.
