KCS Covered hoppers

When passing through KC MO on I-435 the other day I saw a train of covered hoppres that were new and painted black with silver tops and a yellow and red strip along the lower side. They also had a large KCS hearld at one end. I was driving and could not get a picture. Has anyone seen these cars or know anything about them? They sure looked sharp.

You are right, they do look sharp. I would love to see one out here.

I’m guessing you don’t see too many KCS hoppers out there?[:D]

Heck, I’d like to see one of them up here! I have yet to see the new KCS paint scheme on anything except photographs.

By the way, these are ARI Through-Sill covered hoppers, and the series is 286000-286749. It would appear that 300 more are coming soon.

Thanks for the link. When I saw them I was not sure what I saw. Then saw they were covered hoppers. Most of the cars like these are either gray or box car red. Was cool to see an entire train of these cars.

Saw a good sized group of them down here last Saturday…had to be the last half of a unit train I would guess…how many of them are there?

750 so far, Ed–numbers 286000-286749. At least that’s all I am aware of for now, though, as I said, the next order will bring the series up as high as 287049.

They make a pretty impressive and good looking train.

All they need is a pair of E9s or E8s on the head end.

And a cab on the rear. Sharp looking cars.
