About a year ago I was in Jackson. Miss. and had to observe the intersection of the KCS and CN(IC) lines through town. I was positively apalled to witness two major freight lines intersecting via hand thrown switches manned be a switchtender in the 21st. Century. I thought this went out a hundred years ago. Does anyone know if or when this bottleneck will be modernized? With the NS’s recent investment in this corridor I would think the capital is there.
LOL…
Nope. The $$$ has been spent and although KCS has taken a run at the state for a $%)M flyover (prior to Katrina) it doesn’t look good. If the Gubmint won’t fund CREATE I think it is safe to say that the switchtender will be around for some time to come…

I really wonder if there is enough traffic on the CN to make a flyover worthwhile. Does CN have any more than a half dozen trains each way plus Amtrak? If not, I can’t see them causing much delay to the NS/KCS trains.
